Systemax sells industrial equipment in Ukraine - a B2B catalogue where buyers are engineers and procurement staff searching for specific equipment types, models and specifications. Industrial e-commerce has a particular SEO shape: enormous long-tail demand across categories, low search volume per query but very high value, and buyers who need technical detail rather than marketing. The site had a large catalogue with weak category structure, no metadata strategy, slow pages and no authority.
An SEO audit of the site identified the technical and structural issues, and the work began with the catalogue's architecture: new category pages were created so that equipment types buyers search for had a dedicated, indexable page rather than being reachable only through filters. Meta tags were optimized across categories and products, using templates that incorporate specifications so thousands of pages could carry meaningful titles. A technical specification for the programmer covered the site errors found in the audit and the speed optimization the catalogue needed.
Content followed a brief system: technical specifications for texts on categories and the blog, written for engineers - applications, selection criteria, standards, comparisons - and technical specifications for external texts used in link building. Crowd links and article links were purchased from industrial and trade resources. Schema markup was optimized on products and categories so specifications appeared in search, and search snippets were optimized for click-through. The site structure and internal linking were reorganized to distribute authority to the category pages, image alt text was optimized across the catalogue, and the categories and products were actively promoted.
The whole programme was built around the catalogue as the asset: every improvement scaled across hundreds of pages rather than being done for one.
Systemax gained a catalogue with a category page for every equipment type buyers search, scalable metadata, faster pages, structured data showing specifications in search, technical content written for its buyers and a growing link profile - the foundation for capturing the long tail of industrial search.
Templated metadata is worth explaining. For a catalogue of this size, hand-writing every title is impossible, so we designed title and description templates that pull the equipment type, key specification and brand into a natural phrase - the way a buyer would search - and applied them across the catalogue, then hand-wrote the top categories and products. The templates alone changed thousands of pages from generic titles to specific, searchable ones, which is where much of the long-tail growth on an industrial site comes from.
Industrial suppliers, distributors and manufacturers in BC have the same long-tail opportunity. North SEO's e-commerce SEO for B2B catalogues focuses on category architecture, templated metadata, schema and technical content - the work that scales across a large catalogue.
