Emmons Palace is a restaurant in New York. Restaurant search is almost entirely local and almost entirely visual: 'restaurant near me', a cuisine plus a neighbourhood, or 'dinner tonight', followed by a scan of photos, ratings and the menu in the map results. In a city with tens of thousands of restaurants, an incomplete listing is a closed door. The restaurant had a strong dining room and a weak online presence - no Google Business Profile, no menu online, no photos where diners were looking.
We created the profile and built it as a restaurant listing should be built: menu, photos, atmosphere and the practical details diners check before booking. Keyword research for the profile identified the searches with real demand - the cuisine, the dining occasions (dinner, brunch, private events, celebrations), the neighbourhood and nearby landmarks - and competitor analysis reviewed the restaurants ranking for those searches: categories, review volume, photo quality, whether they had reservations and menus attached.
Categories were set with the cuisine-specific restaurant category as primary and secondaries for bar, event venue and the other things the restaurant is. Menu sections and signature dishes were entered as products with descriptions and prices, and the business description was written around the search terms and the dining experience, with hours, reservations, parking and dress code made clear. Photos were added and optimized - dishes, the dining room, the bar, the exterior at night, private-event spaces - each named and tagged.
A review campaign invited recent guests to share their experience, every review was checked and answered with the hospitality the restaurant shows in person, and four keyword-based posts featured seasonal menus, events and specials. Positions for the target searches were monitored after launch and the profile adjusted to what was driving views and direction requests.
Emmons Palace gained a complete, appetizing Google listing - menu, photos, reviews, events - competing for the neighbourhood and occasion searches that fill tables in New York.
Menu handling is the part restaurant owners underestimate. Google can show a menu directly in the listing - as structured menu items, as a linked menu page, or as photos - and diners use it to decide before they ever tap the website. We entered the menu as structured items with prices so it appears in search, kept it in sync with the printed menu, and added dish photos to the corresponding items. Reservation and ordering links were attached so the listing could take a booking on the spot. For a restaurant, the profile is not a directory entry; it is the front window, and it was built as one.
Vancouver restaurants live in the same map results. North SEO's GBP Optimisation builds a restaurant listing that sells the meal before the diner arrives, and GBP Management keeps the menu, photos and posts current through every season.
