City Master Barbers is a barbershop and salon in New Jersey with two locations. Barbershops are found on the map and chosen on photos and reviews: someone new to the area searches 'barber near me', looks at the three results, opens the one with the best pictures and a rating above four and a half, and books. The shop had loyal walk-in customers but no Google Business Profile, so new residents and people passing through could not find it, and the two locations had no online identity of their own.
We created the profile and built it around the way people choose a barber. Keyword research for the profile identified the searches that matter - barber, barbershop, men's haircut, beard trim, fade, hot towel shave, kids' haircut, and the town names - and competitor analysis reviewed the shops appearing in the local results: their categories, review counts, photo quality and whether they offered online booking. Categories were set with barber shop as primary and hair salon and related services as secondaries, reflecting the shop's full range.
Services were created and described individually - each cut, shave and treatment with a keyword-rich description and price - and the business description was written in the shop's voice around the search terms, with hours, walk-in policy and booking information stated clearly. Photos were added and optimized: the shop interior, the chairs, the team, and above all the haircuts themselves, because a barbershop profile sells on the work.
A review request routine was set up with regular clients, every review was checked and answered in the shop's tone, and four keyword-based posts highlighted styles, promotions and the team. Positions were monitored for the main searches in the weeks after launch and the profile refined accordingly.
City Master Barbers gained a complete Google presence built on photos, reviews and a full service menu - the listing that wins new customers in a category decided by first impressions. The full case study for both locations - top rankings in eight months - is documented separately.
Because the shop had two locations, the profile was built with the second in mind from the start: consistent naming, distinct addresses and phone numbers, each location's own photos and hours, and no shared description that Google might treat as a duplicate. Online booking was linked directly from the profile so a new customer could reserve a chair without calling, and the services menu was ordered by popularity so the most-searched cuts appeared first. The shop's staff were shown how to add a photo and answer a review from a phone, since the profile is only as alive as the people posting to it.
Barbershops and salons in Vancouver win or lose on the same three pins. North SEO's GBP Optimisation builds a shop's profile around its work - photos, services, reviews, posts - and GBP Management keeps the feed fresh so the listing stays on top.
