Boxline UCL is a container shipping and logistics company with an international audience, and it was replacing its website. The company had a designer and developers; what it needed was someone to run the project - to turn a loose set of wishes into agreed requirements, keep the designers and developers aligned, and make sure the site that launched was the site that was specified. This engagement was project management rather than SEO.
The month began with design terms of reference. We consulted with the client and the designers to pin down the exact design requirements for the site and made sure they were agreed by all stakeholders before any design work started - the step that, when skipped, produces three rounds of redesign. From the approved requirements we wrote a detailed design brief: colour palette, typography, components, page structure and the other details needed for a user-friendly, aesthetic result.
A separate terms of reference covered functionality: every feature, how elements interact, what users can do on each page, and the constraints the developers had to respect. Writing it down meant the developers could estimate honestly and the client could see what they were paying for.
Once design and development were complete we organized the launch: checking that functionality matched the requirements, testing pages and forms, identifying errors and deficiencies, and getting them corrected before the site went public. The month's work was, in short, requirements, alignment, quality control and completion.
Even in a PM role we kept the SEO basics in view - clean URLs, a sensible structure, redirects from the old site - because a launch that ignores them creates work for the next year.
Boxline UCL launched a site that matched its specification, on time, with the client's designers and developers working from the same documents. The process was documented so the company could run future updates the same way.
The functionality specification turned out to be the most valuable document of the month. It listed every feature by page - quote request forms, tracking lookups, service pages by shipping type, office locations, downloadable documents - together with how each should behave, what data it captures and where that data goes. Without it, developers would have built what they assumed and the client would have discovered the gaps at launch. With it, estimates were accurate, testing had a checklist, and the launch review could be done against a written standard rather than opinion.
Sometimes a business does not need another vendor; it needs someone to run the ones it has. North SEO offers project management for website builds in Vancouver - requirements, briefs, coordination and launch QA - alongside its design and SEO work.
