SunRise Retreats hosts retreats in Texas and needed a website that would do two things a retreat business depends on: create the feeling of calm and space the retreats offer, and make it easy to see what is on offer and book. The client had a modest budget, clear ideas about the atmosphere, and no site at all.
Retreat and wellness sites fail in predictable ways - beautiful photography with no information, or complete information presented so densely that the calm is lost. The job was to get both right on a small build.
We wrote a technical specification first, describing the types of retreats offered, the page structure, the booking functionality, the design direction, widgets and other requirements, so that client and builder agreed on the site before layout began. The site was then built in Elementor on WordPress with sections for each retreat, information about amenities and the programme, an image gallery, and the additional elements the concept called for.
Design edits followed the client's feedback with one rule in mind: every change had to preserve an atmosphere of peace consistent with the retreat concept - generous spacing, soft colour, unhurried layout. Text content was written to describe retreat types, services, programme details and locations clearly and persuasively, so a visitor could understand what a stay involves without having to call. When the layout was complete, the site was uploaded to hosting, the domain configured and all parameters set for reliable operation.
Because the budget was small, the build was kept deliberately lean: a small number of well-made pages, a fast theme, no plugins that were not earning their keep. That also made the site simple for the client to maintain.
SunRise Retreats launched with a site that presents its retreats in the right mood, gives visitors the information they need to decide, and routes them to a booking - a user-friendly, engaging environment for booking and learning about retreats, delivered within a very small budget.
Even at this size, the build was done with search in mind. Each retreat got its own page with a descriptive title and a clear heading, the image gallery was compressed and labelled, the site was checked on mobile, and the basic technical set-up - sitemap, indexing, a Google Business Profile for the venue - was done at launch so the retreats could be found by people searching for them in Texas rather than only through social media. That foundation costs almost nothing during a build and is expensive to add later.
