The Client and the Challenge

An established WooCommerce store came to us with a maintenance list that had grown for too long. Product information was out of date, stock availability on the site did not match what the business actually had, the checkout had accumulated friction, and the site had become slow enough to hurt both conversions and rankings. None of these are glamorous problems, but together they were costing sales every day.

The store owner did not need a redesign. They needed the existing store brought back into a state where customers could trust what they saw, buy without obstacles and get pages that loaded quickly on a phone.

Our Approach

We scoped the work into four blocks so progress was visible. Catalogue first: product descriptions, attributes, prices and images were reviewed and updated so the site reflected the current range. Availability second: stock information was corrected and the process for keeping it current was fixed, so customers stopped ordering items that were not in stock. Checkout third: the WooCommerce cart and checkout flow were customized - unnecessary fields removed, steps simplified, the payment and shipping options presented clearly. Performance last, because it touches everything: caching, image compression, script loading and theme clean-up.

What We Did

Product information and stock availability updates
Checkout and cart customization
Page-speed optimization

Speed work on WooCommerce is mostly subtraction. We audited the plugins loading on every page, removed or replaced the ones that were not earning their place, deferred non-critical scripts, compressed and resized the product image library, and tuned caching for the store's traffic pattern. Every change was tested on the checkout flow before release, because a fast store that cannot take an order is worse than a slow one that can.

Results

Faster store with a smoother checkout and accurate catalogue.

The store came out of the project with an accurate catalogue, correct stock information, a checkout that gets out of the customer's way and page loads fast enough to satisfy both shoppers and Google's Core Web Vitals - which in turn supported its organic rankings.

Notes From the Project

Because the store had been live for years, we also fixed the residue that accumulates in any mature WooCommerce install: orphaned product images, redirect chains from renamed categories, discontinued products still indexed and returning 404s, and a sitemap that listed pages nobody should visit. Each of those is small; together they waste crawl budget and send shoppers to dead ends. Cleaning them up was part of the performance work, and it improved the store's crawl health as a side effect. The client's staff were shown how to retire a product properly so the problem would not return.

What This Means for Your Business

If you run a WooCommerce store in Vancouver and have been putting off the 'boring' fixes, they are usually the highest-return work available. North SEO's WordPress SEO service covers this maintenance layer alongside the optimization work.
